Elle’s school friends were just as nice as her family, and Sarah had a ton of fun celebrating. What was even more fun though was the celebrating she and Elle did in private back at her apartment. Unfortunately, Elle was understandably tired from her day, so the celebrating couldn’t last all night.

As Elle was falling asleep beside her, all Sarah could think about was the time with Elle’s family. Sarah’s aunt was the only person she had at her high school graduation and even she didn’t come to her college graduation. After she got her master’s degree, she didn’t even bother walking. Maggie and Amelia tried to convince her by promising they would come, but it didn’t seem worth it.

She hated that she was thinking about this right now. She was lying next to a beautiful woman. That’s where her mind should have been. She tried to push all thoughts out of her mind as she closed her eyes and willed herself to drift to sleep.

“Don’t go!” Sarah yelled as her parents walked out the door. At least, she was trying to yell. Instead, her voice was coming out barely above a whisper.

Of course, her parents couldn’t hear her and they were out the door before she could stop them. She knew if she didn’t get to them on time, they wouldn’t make it. She had to leave the house. Why wasn’t she moving? Damnit, feet, move!

Keys… She needed keys. Where the hell were the keys? She moved as quickly as she could through the house, but it wasn’t nearly as fast as she wanted to be moving. Why did her legs feel so heavy?

AND WHERE WERE THE DAMN KEYS? Screw it. She would walk. Now she couldn’t find her shoes though. She headed toward her room, but halfway there, forgot where she was going and ended up in the bathroom. She wasn’t thinking straight. She needed to use her brain. Bedroom. Shoes. That was right.

When she entered her room, it looked completely different from before. Was it even her room? She grabbed a pair of shoes, but they weren’t hers. She couldn’t worry about that right now. She had to hurry.

The shoes were way too big, so anytime she moved too quickly, they fell off. She was somehow able to get down the stairs and was just about to open the door when she heard that horrible sound. It was the sound of brakes squealing and metal crashing.

“No!” she yelled as sweat drenched her whole body. She was too late. “No! No! No!”

She ran outside and saw what she had been trying to stop. Her parents' car was smashed from front to back. There was no chance that anyone inside could have survived.

“No!” she shouted once again. “No! Please, no!”

“Sarah?”

Sarah looked all around. She had no idea where that voice was coming from. No one was there. It was just her and the wreckage.

“Sarah? Are you okay?”

Now, she felt a hand on her arm, even though no one was touching her.
